Composite Insulators Developed For Indian Railways

Indian Railways operate railway electric traction system on 25 kV ac 50Hz single phase between one phase and earth. The insulation level adopted in electric traction system corresponds to the insulation level stipulated for 52 kV system. In electric traction Indian Railways are using brown glazed solid core porcelain insulators i.e., Ceramic Insulators. Of late, to have a better performance in polluted atmosphere and vandalism prone areas, Indian Railways have preferred Composite Insulators (which are also called as Polymer Insulators). In India, Goldstone Teleservices Limited is the first to develop Composite Insulators (Polymer Insulators) for Indian Railways using Silicone Rubber Compound. The salient features of the Composite Insulators developed by Goldstone Teleservices Limited, Hyderabad are as below:

Construction
Core Material : FRP Rod
Polymer Material : Silicone Rubber compound
Method of Manufacture : Direct Moulding of Solicone Rubber over FRP rod
Metal end fittings : M.C.I
Method of connecting
Metal Fitting with FRP rod
